Hello everyone, another update.
We are getting ready to open the Miller course. This course has really grown in well and we are putting the finishing touches on the course. Pouring concrete in all the broken slabs of concrete is the focus over the next few days. PINE STRAW update. We are getting 2-3 trucks per week and have started putting this out. I want to thank everyone who came out to help with the distribution of straw last weekend. I hope this gave everyone a glimpse of how time consuming this process truly is. It takes many man hours to put this all out. We will continue to work to get this spread in as many areas as possible prior to opening. I can see us having a majority of the course completed but will still be working on strawing the whole course after we open. The greens are down to our target mowing heights which I am happy to report the greens are rolling well. The bunkers are doing amazing. Even through Hurricane Harvey, they sand stayed in place and look really good. We will check depths and make any necessary adjustments prior to opening.
Weiskopf: I have been getting many questions about the rough. Yes the rough is thick and yes it is higher than normal. We got behind on mowing of the rough due to the heavy rains, so we had to raise the heights from 1.75" to 2". This small adjustment certainly made an impact on the look of the course, but we will work to get it back down to 1.75" once the cooler weather arrives. It is important to note, the higher and healthier you go into the winter, the healthier you come out in the spring. I am happy with how the course has come through this summer. We repaired all of the damaged collars and will continue to fertilize these and promote a healthy stand of grass heading into winter.
Grand Pines: This course is coming back together after the storms. We aerified these greens last week and are starting to put together plans for the bunkers. We have started stockpiling sand to put into these bunkers to make them more playable. I will report any new information about these bunkers once it is available to share. The native areas will continue to be mowed down and sprayed out with RoundUp. It is my goal to start over with all these areas. I want to plant some winter forage type grasses to give us a nice look during the winter. We will then spray out again in the spring and plant some bunch grasses and work to keep these lower and cleaner.
